Let Them Eat Face! Labor, Live!

Last Halloween I wanted this cake pan at Bed, Bath & Beyond so badly, but it was about $30. I couldn't justify it, so I waited and bought it after Halloween for $7, and have been itching to use it.

You are supposed to make this big fancy mix to fill both side of the skull and have a full head, but uh, that sounded like ALOT of work. I bought some red velvet cake mix, put it together and popped it in the oven.

This is just the cake itself. I decided that to make it look more gooey and gross to use a glaze that I bought instead of icing.

I took it to work today, but something else scared JR more than the cake. I'll let my Facebook status sum it up:
"I inadvertently scared the crap out of JR today. When we went to commercial break I told him my hands were sweaty, my heart was racing, and my stomach was killing me. I couldn't figure out the look on his face. We had just run the story on the world record skydiver and I really hate heights. Apparently JR hates thinking he is going to have to deliver his co-anchor's baby. Poor guy."
Ya gotta be careful what you say when you are pregnant!

Soup Sunday, and Snuggle Saturday

Despite the fact that I am about to pop out a baby any time, Adam still wants to eat - EVERY day! Demanding. He also LOVES soup, and that makes my life much easier. My sleep schedule all week is very weird and I don't often get enough sleep, so on Sunday mornings I always feel so refreshed. It's amazing what 8-10 hours will do for you. Lately, I have been using the day to make soup - and this week was spicy sweet potato for me, and creamy corn and crawfish chowder for Adam. He loves crawfish and anything creamy so this should work out well.

Here is a link to the Crawfish Chowder recipe:

and also, the sweet potato soup:

Adam and I really like extra garlic and salt in everything, but some people may like the recipes as they are.

I also feel very strongly you have to have the crusty (not-so-homemade) bread.

I also wanted to post a picture (below). It was very rainy and cool here yesterday. Brookie and I got coffee and when we got home decided the weather dictated some "nap-time." I don't sleep very well, so I was just laying there and when I looked up and saw the super snugglin' going on I had to take a pic. Brooke said it's creepy. I think it's cute.

On the Job

For months, KNWA News has been preparing to go HD and move into a new building on Dickson Street (for KU folks, it's the Mass St. of Fayetteville). The location is awesome, the building completely renovated to suit us, and all of our equipment will be brand new. All of this means we have the opportunity to take our shows up a notch - or maybe ten.

Above is our new studio. To the left, you can see the weather center.

This is our new control room, with all the latest state-of-the-art equipment. Everything is still under construction, and there is much more to show when finished.

The area reserved for Razorback Nation is amazing. We easily have the best sports coverage in the state, and Adam is excited that it will now only get better.

We have been training this week and have rehearsals all next week. The first evening HD show in the new studio will air Oct 24th, the first morning show on Oct 25th. I am not sure if I will still be at work at that time, or watching from the couch with Zoey, but either way, I am very excited!

Little sausage, Zoey's fate decided & Me...Laine

Last night we got to spend some time with two of our favorite people, Christa and Travis! They whipped up homemade sweet potato soup, and garlic kale. We stuffed our faces and watched Boardwalk Empire. I still miss Jimmy.

It was awesome. One of the highlights of the evening was seeing Poncho. He has put on a little weight (he told me the same thing) but he ensures me he is not expecting. He is such a cute little sausage.
This morning at work, I received a gift from our friends Amanda and Dan. It is a "magic" T-shirt that will predict your child's future. Being a legitimate journalist, I did a little research and found out this is pretty much a guarantee, so I was nervous to find out Zoey's fate. Adam was really hoping for "professional replacement ref," but I was pretty sure it would be animal related, and - ta-da!
 I am not even surprised.

Another great gift we just received: a beautifully illustrated book about Jane Goodall as a little girl, called Me...Jane. Brooke's roommate bought it for us and had it signed by Jane Goodall, the amazing primatologist/anthropologist. Zoey will love it!

At our baby shower in Wichita everyone brought us a book that they loved to have read to them as a child, or that they loved to read to their kids, so this read will be on the shelf with some good company.

Sidenote: These two think my new "blogging hobby" is VERY boring. Treats while I am writing helps them think it is a little less boring, but not much.

Our life (for right now)

Our little family right now consists of me, Adam, Jazzy, Ozzy and my little sister Brooke (who sometimes lives here, if she is hungry or has laundry).

Adam and I work at KNWA News, Brooke is in school, and Jazzy and Ozzy are both currently unemployed.

They may look like trouble, but are expert snugglers if anyone is looking for some good help.

Last but certainly not least is Zoey, who should be here anytime (and who is roughly the size of a huge pumpkin right now - or at least it feels that way).

We picked the Dr. Seuss theme for her room.

Waiting for her to get here is the biggest part of our lives, but I do love fall, so I have been decorating to stay busy!

That is all of our excitement for right now - but that will all change in a few weeks, and I am sure we will be posting more pictures than you would ever want to see!
